Rosaviatsia Airlines Introduces the Boeing 777-300ER Known As "Rusaia"

The Russian version of the Boeing 777-300ER is known as "Rusaia." In addition to its standard Economy Class, this model features a 21 recliner-style seats in Business Class.

The airline uses these aircraft for long-haul service both domestically and to international destinations. On board are 436 standard Economy Class seats. The inflight entertainment system may include video screens with a variety of selections including movies, news and more.

Girvaan Kaahma was among the passengers aboard Air India flight 173, which crashed in Russia's airspace on Tuesday. The US State Department says American citizens are likely among the victims of the crash. Kaahma is a student in the UK who was traveling to Magadan with his uncle and brother. He says they were told they would be leaving for the US Thursday. He isn't sure what happened to his family because he has been barred from leaving the hostel in Magadan due to sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

The airline was founded in Rusia 777 2005 and incorporated as a joint-stock company. It started operations on July 11, 2005 with a leased, ex-Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-200 flying scheduled services from Moscow to Tel Aviv and summer charter flights to holiday destinations. The company was the first private airline to operate scheduled flights outside of the Soviet Union.

In early February, Rosaviatsia approved the use of three 777-200 aircraft previously operated by VIM Avia for 19 routes to China from Irkutsk. The air carrier will use them to transport Chinese tourists.

According to Russian media reports, dozens of Russian holidaymakers were stranded in the Turkish resort city of Antalya on Sunday because two-thirds of an airline's fleet of Boeing 777 aircraft experienced breakdowns. The flight from Antalya to Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport (SVX) was repeatedly rescheduled but eventually cancelled. The airline offered hotel rooms to the stranded passengers.

A spokesman for Rosaviatsia says the airline has received permission to import replacement parts for these aircraft, and it's now working on getting those parts into the country. Until recently, it's been difficult for the airline to get American and European-made replacement parts because of the sanctions imposed against Russia.

The spokesman says the new authorizations are an important step forward because they allow the airline to repair these planes. It will also give Aeroflot the ability to rework its fleet of foreign-made aircraft and increase frequency on some routes. The spokesman says that until this process is complete, the airline will continue to comply with Western sanctions against Russia. The spokesman added that it will be a while before the new contracts take effect and that the ten aircraft purchased from the Irish leasing companies are brought back into service. The airline's fleet of these aircraft is one of the largest in the world. The new contracts will be negotiated through a subsidiary of Aeroflot called Airbus Financial Leasing Limited. Its office is located in London. This is the same group that signed the contract for the 10 777-300ERs.
